Corpus Christi’s Silverback ready to make waves in the UFC; Possibly debuting vs. Pat Cummins at UFC Fight Night 42
May 22, 2014 – Today marks a new beginning for Corpus Christi firefighter Roger Narvaez. The “Silverback” has finally accomplished one of his main career goals in signing with the UFC. This moment has been on his mind since he debuted in MMA back in February 2010. And now it’s about to be a reality.
Though this hasn’t yet been confirmed by UFC sources, speculation is that Narvaez will be debuting opposite former barista Patrick Cummins, June 7th in Albuquerque, NM. Cummins is best known for stepping up opposite Daniel Cormier after Rashad Evans got injured prior to UFC 170. He lost that fight but might look to rebound against Narvaez, who steps in on short notice for Francimar Barroso. The two are presumed to square off on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov ( UFC Fight Night 42) with the event televised on FOX Sports 1. Both fighters will be looking for their first UFC win.
The call-up couldn’t have come at a better time for the 30 year old Corpus Christi native. Narvaez had already been in training for a planned June 13th title fight opposite Bubba Bush at Legacy FC 31. But when the UFC called he couldn’t turn the opportunity down. He’ll be facing Cummins on the heels of six straight wins in a row to start his career. The fight between Narvaez and Cummins would be contested at 205, above his usual 185 lbs. weight class though he’s fought there before.
“With great risks come great rewards,” Roger has told us previously concerning big fights.
The journey continues from here.
