Cage Combat 12 Results and Recap – Trevin Giles and Paulina Granados capture title belts in Humble

Cage Combat 12 by Mike Calimbas.HUMBLE, TX, December 22, 2012 – Elite MMA’s Trevin “The Problem” Giles claimed the Garcia Promotions middleweight championship last night at the Humble Civic Center in the main event of Cage Combat 12. Facing off against Silverback Fight Club’s Eric “The Monster” Thompson, Giles did indeed end up causing problems for his opponent as he predicted. The two fought hard through four rounds of action with Giles being the aggressor through the majority of the bout with well-timed jabs and even more timely takedowns. Taking Thompson’s back late in the fourth round; Trevin landed a big shot that seemingly rocked an already exhausted Thompson. As the bell rang, Thompson would not get up to go back to his corner and actually had to be dragged to his stool by teammates. Referee Jake Montalvo sought to give “The Monster” a few moments to recover but he could not gather his will to fight in enough time and Montalvo called the bout giving Giles his first title and fourth amateur win to remain undefeated since beginning his career in January of this year.

Cage Combat 12 by Mike Calimbas.Meanwhile in the co-main event of the evening, another war would take place involving two ladies in Corpus Christi’s Paulina Granados and Houston’s Stephanie Alba. Reprising their first bout from January 2011, the two fought a really close fight throughout five rounds of action that exhausted and battered both competitors while winning TXMMA Fight of the Night honors. It all came to a split decision in the end with Paulina ending it out to get her own fourth win to stay undefeated along with her first title as an amateur. Alba meanwhile drops to 2-2 as an amateur but will no doubt continue to remain a force and look to build off an otherwise impressive performance that certainly left a mark on her opponent.

Aside from the two headlining bouts there were several other  notable highlight performances coming out of Cage Combat 12 as well.

Cage Combat 12 by Mike Calimbas. The TXMMA Knockout of the Night went to San Antonio native Chris Lopez who ended his amateur career with a 16-second KO of Elite MMA’s Mike Eaglin in their welterweight bout. All it took was one shot (a counter left hand) to floor the big man before Lopez jumped on with some vicious ground-and-pound to put an exclamation to his victory. The Team Tooke / Jace Pitre MMA fighter will now move on to make his pro debut on the March 1st Legacy Fighting Championship card set for Cowboys Dance Hall when he takes on 1-2 pro Julian Shore.

Also impressing was Lopez’s fellow Team Tooke / Jace Pitre MMA fighter Cameron Graves who scored a huge win over his most experienced opponent yet in Paradigm’s Edgar Juarez. Coming off a highlight-reel headkick KO over Jose Ceja at Cage Combat 10 this past July, Cameron would deftly finish the triangle-armbar combo in the second round of this highly entertaining affair. In speaking to promoter Eric Garcia after the fight, his desire is to now see Graves take on Joel Scott for the organization’s bantamweight title sometime likely in early 2013.

Below are all the results from the Cage Combat 12 card held on December 21st in Humble, TX.

Eric Thompson should pursue something else, with a 3-4 record now…I dont see him going any further in the sport.

You can never tell a fighters full potential by an amateur record. Especially being beaten by Trevin. I train with Trevin and the guy has natural talent and great technique. As much as I didn’t like the trash talking thompson was doing at the staredown. I disagree that just because he has a 3-4 record he won’t go anywhere.

I see what your saying fully zack. Trevin is definitely a very gifted fighter, with a lot of natural born talent. I can see what Zuffa is trying to say because I see it too. Yeah its the amateur ranks and its a good way to gain experience IF the fighter decides to go pro, but Eric has mainly fought guys either with a negative record, or debuting fighters, with just that, the kid has a huge head…he will never become a complete fighter unless he continues to fight guys like Trevin, guys that will test him in all aspects of the sport. Eric is a GP Vet…all of his fights have been in Cage Combat. I dont understand why Eric trash talks…he’s only finished one opponent. Trevin has two first round stoppages and a decision win. IMO Eric didnt deserve a title shot so soon, after two good wins yes. I always tell my guys, never assume your the best because theres someone always better.
