Triple amputee relies on courage and determination in BJJ competition
HOUSTON, TX – For the second year in a row, Tier 1’s Joey Bozik competed in this past weekend’s IBJJF Houston International Open. A retired Army sergeant out of McKinney, the 36 year old Bozik competes in BJJ despite a triple amputation that left him without the full use of both legs and one arm. Always relentless when he’s out on the mats, Joey is an example for other BJJ practitioners with disabilities. Aside from competing himself, he is also a vital part of the We Defy Foundation, a not-for-profit organization aimed at improving the lives of disabled military veterans through BJJ and fitness training.
