Great turnout for Rodrigo Cabral Seminar

Twisting, bending, arching, and rolling. Rodrigo “Brucutu” Cabral held a free 3 hour seminar on January 21, 2001 at John’s Gym for all BJJ enthusiasts. Having just arrived a week earlier from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil we wanted to introduce Rodrigo and his BJJ teaching methods to Austin and surrounding areas.
It was a great turnout, at one point we counted 30 people on the mat working on the various basic to advanced Jiu Jitsu techniques he taught. There was a good variety of BJJ students from other schools that attended to help make this seminar great. We were especially thankful to the several black belts that came, showing that learning never ends. In No Gi we worked arm drag from butterfly guard and various takedown techniques from standing. With the gi we worked several transitions from spider guard including inverted sweeps. Once the seminar was over we had an hour of sparring/rolling, which allowed everyone to have an opportunity to roll with new people from other teams. John’s Gym will continue to offer seminars from high level black belts; and with Rodrigo teaching all classes, we offer high level instruction with every class.
