KO Sports’ Kirk Hubble seeking first pro MMA win this Saturday at STFC 22

CORPUS CHRISTI, October 10, 2012 – They say you don’t often get a second chance to make a first impression in this life but that’s exactly what Corpus Christi’s Kirk Hubble intends to do this Saturday when he steps into the cage for his second pro bout.

By fight time, he’ll be almost four months removed from his unsuccessful pro debut against David Armas at the UWF Tournament of Warriors Finale. It was a fight he dominated for the first two rounds and one he was seemingly assured of winning before a vicious knee during a takedown attempt changes the course of the bout instantaneously and ended his night in abrupt fashion.

Certainly a disappointing way for the former pro baseball play to start his pro career with a loss but one he’s chalked up as a learning experience. Now he’s looking to erase that memory and get into the win column when takes on Miguel Flores this weekend at STFC 22 on South Padre Island.

“My mindset has been geared right now to go out and not just win but finish fights,” Hubble says about how he’s approaching the fight this weekend. A lifelong competitor rooted in baseball before making the transition to MMA, Kirk says he’s always had an extremely strong competitive drive. Although winning and losing is all part of the game and sports in general, it’s the sacrifice in training that should really help moving forward. Through pushing his body to higher limits, he can increase his probability for success.

That focus on preparation has been key for him in getting ready for STFC 22.

“Training camp has been different this time just because I didn’t go back up to Jackson’s (MMA) and planned on just doing it all at Xtreme here in Corpus. I ended up having to have most of it (camp) at my gym. It was a pain bringing in sparring partners but it was worth it. Plus the team we have there really pushed me and helped me really open up something in my game that will be a game-changer from here out. I have prepared hard to keep the fight where I want this time but also display what I’m truly capable of. We have done a lot of hard sparring and I feel like it got me right where I want to be mentally and physically.”

“I’m always thinking fighting in general, so my opponent (Flores) is just another guy. I’ve prepared accordingly and I just want to start the fight and end it wherever it goes. I see nothing short of a victory, and one in which I finish in brutal convincing fashion.”
