Recharged, Nova União’s Bruno Bastos to make Texas MMA Debut October 20th in West Texas
ODESSA, TX, September 28, 2012 – It’s been little over six years since he last made a go at mixed martial arts (MMA) competition but Bruno Bastos is finally stepping back into the cage.
The senior leader of the Nova União association here in Texas, Bruno will be leading the charge for a team that also includes Luan Carvalho when he steps into the cage as part of the Twenty Four Seven Entertainment event labeled “Self Made” happening at the Far West Events Center on October 20th.
Though he has no less than 3x World Cup titles and numerous other accolades in his native sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Bruno has experienced limited success so far while dabbling in MMA.
He currently has a 0-2 record, losing two decisions while stepping into the cage twice in one month back in April 2006.
His last bout was a spirited split decision loss to UFC fighter and also a noted BJJ black belt in “Toquinho,” Rousimar Palhares.
Despite those past losses, Bastos is looking at this latest attempt in MMA as a completely fresh start altogether. With a proper training approach geared specifically towards mixed martial arts as opposed to a sole reliance on his BJJ, he expects to show much more this time around when he takes on 2-0 Rick McCall.
“To me, it means a new start after fighting the wrong way without training years ago,” Bruno told Brazilian news outlet Tatame. “Now I’m doing it right. I started with Jiu-Jitsu, which is my base, even in Rio with my brother and my cousin, doing the physical (cardio) training with Giulliano Massaras. Back to Midland (Texas), where I have my new school of Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ Rhino), I did a three-week camp with UFC veteran Paul Buentello, and I learned a lot. Now I’m in Sofia (Bulgaria) for another two weeks of camp with UFC fighter Stanislav Nedkov, and I am confident for this fight.”
With this renewed vigor and a whole world’s worth of training focus behind him, Bruno should certainly be one to watch as he could be making waves in the Texas MMA Scene in the near future.
Now all eyes are on Midland to see the result come October 20th to see what transpires next.
