Titan FC 30: Magalhaes vs Brilz – Preview and Predictions

205 lbs.: Jason Brilz vs. Vinny Maghalaes

At the top of the card, former UFC light heavyweight stars Jason Brilz and Vinny Maghalaes will be going head to head for the inaugural Titan FC Middleweight Title.  Maghalaes is one of the most talented Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters around, and if he is able to take the fight to the ground will certainly be able to get a submission victory.  However, Maghalaes has not been very successful in MMA and was cut from the UFC after losing two consecutive fights.  He is currently coming off of a July 19th first round submission victory though so he may be able to pick up speed again.  Brilz on the other hand has been on a tear since his 2011 cut from the UFC, having won his past four fights in a row.  Expect a great fight.  Jason Brilz has a solid standup game and has shown himself to be difficult to submit, so the TXMMA prediction is a second round knockout.

Prediction Jason Brillz over Vinny Maghalaes by KO Rd 2

135 lbs.: Anthony Gutierrez vs. Walel Watson

If Anthony Gutierrez can make weight, fight fans will be in for a treat in this bantamweight showdown.  Gutierrez who has gone 5-0 as a professional is probably best known by MMA fans for missing weight late in The Ultimate Fighter season 18 thus losing his opportunity.  Walel Watson on the other hand is a seasoned veteran with his 12-7 record.  Both fighters rely primarily on slick submission games so expect the battle to go to the ground, given the guile of both expect a decision for the younger and possibly hungrier fighter.

Prediction Anthony Gutierrez over Walel Watson by Unanimous Decision

170 lbs.: Todd Moore vs. Danny Salinas

Houston-based Strikeforce vet Todd Moore returns to action in his home state of Texas against South Texas stalwart Danny Salinas. A lifelong wrestler, Todd will look to use his grappling skills against Danny, a notorious hard hitter. Will 40 fights between them both these guys are no strangers to the sport and will look to use their strengths to their advantage. Whoever dictates the pace of this fight will likely come out with the victory. It will be a close one here and whoever wins gets to add a little bit of momentum to keep things going in the latter stages of their career.

Prediction Todd Moore over Danny Salinas by Split Decision

135 lbs.: Cody Williams vs. Xavier Siller

Beaumont Texas based Cody Williams (7-5), will be going up against Abilene’s talented prospect Xavier Siller (4-1).  Expect both to be looking to make a statement.  Looking at his last fight versus striker Angel Huerta makes one think that Siller is more dangerous on the floor than on his feet but he could have some talent everywhere. Meanwhile, Cody is the same type of fighter but if one had to pick a strength, it would most definitely be his explosive striking. This one will be a test but expect Williams to use experience to his advantage and come out with the decision victory.

Prediction Cody Williams over Xavier Siller by Unanimous Decision

145 lbs.: Toninho Furia vs. Robert Washington

Facing off for a featherweight title eliminator Toninho Furia (18-2) will be facing off against St. Louis based Robert Washington (18-8).  Washington is a powerful striker having won 10 of his fights by KO/TKO.  Furia on the other hand is more of a chess player finishing when the opportunity presents itself.  Both fighters will come out trying to make a statement, but Washington will be at a disadvantage given that he normally fights at lightweight, while Furia normally fights at featherweight.  Furia also has enjoyed more success recently as he is on an 8 fight win streak while Washington is only on a 3 fight streak.  Expect Toninho to try to take this fight to the ground and submit Washington early in the fight.

Prediction Toninho Furia over Robert Washington by Submission Rd 1.
