BQuick JJ wins overall team title while Alex Martins scores with prize money win in Dallas
ARLINGTON, TX, June 10, 2014 – American Grappling Federation (AGF) hosted their 2014 Dallas BJJ Championships this past Saturday. This event featured 74 teams from around the region competing at the Aces Volleyball facility in Arlington. Based on competitor feedback it was certainly another competitive event, with plenty of kids and adults putting it on the line just a week removed from BJJ Worlds. Looking at the point standings it was a close one for the teams also.
With 175 total points, BQuick JJ Network once again held serve to win the overall team championship. They weren’t without challengers however as Lovato BJJ came close to catching them with 155 total points on the day. North Texas MMA came in third with 147 points.
Paragon Dallas instructor Alex Martins held serve in the brown/black belt gi division, winning the $500 in prize money. Coming in second and third respectively were two new brown belts in BQ’s Levi Mowles and F3’s Evan Cutts. Martins once again showed his experience in winning the division here while Mowles looking good as usual also. As for Cutts, this may have been his first gi tournament (compared to his lengthier experience in MMA) but he showed poise along with a solid kimura trap progression that was impressive to see.
Aside from those three another brown belt impressed as well in Jeff Hammond of Tyler, TX. He won his division with an impressive arsenal including a gogoplata that he’ll replay for us in an upcoming TXMMA technique of the week.
As for the rest of the performers, we’ll just let the video do the talking. Scroll further down the page to catch about three hours of the best action from the tournament along with pictures courtesy of Felix Rodriguez and Mike Calimbas Photography.
