Evan Martinez and Luis Luna highlight list of winners in West Texas at Twenty Four Seven Entertainment 17

10565090_889540951075758_6292627702622051691_nMIDLAND, TX – The Midland Center was the scene for a full day’s worth of fights this past weekend as Fabian Butler put on his latest (and maybe his last) event with Twenty Four Seven Entertainment. Certainly one of the most outspoken promoters in all of Texas, Butler has long been a proponent of growing the sport of MMA in West Texas and this time was no different as he gave venue for both amateurs and professional fighters to compete in one day.

On the pro side, the show was anchored by a bantamweight title match. Getting the shot were DFW’s Evan Martinez (Octagon MMA) and Abilene’s Brandon Ruiz (Revolutionary Fitness & MMA). The bout was one of the best of the night with Ruiz starting off aggressively with his kickboxing. For his part, Evan showed remarkable patience and durability in the fight, staving off a few strong shots and composing himself to get the submission in the second round. With this win Martinez now moves to 4-0 as a pro with his first title belt while Ruiz drops to 3-2.

Next up was hometown favorite Luis Luna fighting Chris Brooks. This bout was near cancelled prior to the show due to paperwork issues with the TDLR. Thankfully for everyone in attendance it ended up going off but didn’t last very long at all with the West Texas native pulling off a few big slams en route to the quick first round submission. The victory brings Luna’s record up to a very impressive 10-4. He mentioned a desire to fight a few 1-2 more times in 2014 as part of his plans to make a run at the UFC.

As for the rest of the pro card at Twenty Four Seven Entertainment 17, the highlights were plentiful:

Surviving a shotgun blast of a side kick by Angel Huerta to open the bout, Javier Siller was able to pull off the win via armbar in their featherweight clash. Siller also threatened with an ankle lock earlier in the bout and looks to be a legit prospect headed up the ranks.

Next up, Jasmine Quezada showed that hype is not the end-all be-all as she bested highly touted Team Takedown rep Montana Stewart by split decision. Despite only having one month with her current trainer, Quezada showed incredible heart and tenacity as she overcome several submission attempts to pull the win out in this one.

Also looking impressive were Mark Delarosa (Team Takedown) and Victor Dominguez (Octagon MMA) who both finished their bouts by first round RNC submission.

A longtime grappler, Delarosa was making the transition into pro MMA in this one. He was able to rely on his wrestling and submission skills to get the win easy. It should be interesting to see how he develops from here on out.

Meanwhile, Illinois transplant Victor Dominguez won easily over Paco Castillo and looked super explosive and full of potential in doing so. With the dearth of flyweight talent in Texas, he would be one to watch as a prospect that could ascend relatively quickly given the right opportunities.
