Legacy FC returns to Houston on Feb. 24 – Top matchups to watch out for on LFC 10 card

HOUSTON, TX, February 18, 2012 – As many of our MMA fans in the Bayou City already know, the city’s flagship MMA promotion, The Legacy Fighting Championship, returns with its next event Legacy FC 10 on February 24th. Taking place at Houston’s Arena Theater and televised LIVE on HDNet, this upcoming card promises some very interesting matchups of note both for local fans and national viewers.

As it stands today, there are eleven fights on the card with six set to be televised on the main card. We’ll go through many of these in depth in the coming week with our pre-fight coverage here on TXMMA.com but for now let’s take a look at some of the big ones so our fans will be in tune with what to watch out for come fight night.

Main Events Pits UFC Veteran against Local Rising Talent

Justin Reiswerg

Aside from possibly having the most “Awesomely Awesome” nickname in all of MMA, 10-2-1 Pat Audinwood is still a legit prospect with a bright future in front of him. He’s already experienced some use of that potential with 2 fights in the UFC after starting his career undefeated in his first ten fights. He lost those octagon to Thiago Tavares and John Makdessi but make no mistake about it, he’s still dangerous and growing as a fighter, as evident by armbar submission of Al Laquinta at Ring of Combat 38 this past November.

Taking him on will be one of Houston’s rising young prospects in Justin Reiswerg. Fans who have been following Legacy FC nationwide may recognize him as the first fighter to put on a show on HDNet for the promotion at Legacy FC 7. It was then that he opened the night with a spectacular performance against Marc Ramirez that had many heralding him as a feature star with an ever-evolving game.  He’s since followed that up with a first-round drubbling of Kenneth Battle at Legacy FC 8 to bring his record to 4-1 as he heads into the biggest test of his career against Audinwood.

This should be an exciting bout and a telling one at that as the world will find out which of these two lightweight fighters has more potential to succeed on the big stage.

Another “Hurricane” Coming to Houston

Speaking of the big stage, there’s another hurricane coming to Houston in the form of Gerald “Hurricane” Harris – another former UFC fighter with the world in front of him despite the fact that he lost his last UFC bout. A native of Oklahoma, Gerald actually spent the majority of his UFC career being hailed as an upcoming star. He won his first three bouts in the organization while earning two ‘knockout of the night’ awards. He was inexplicably cut from the UFC after losing to Maiquel Falcao back in November of 2010 but he has since rebounded with 2 wins as of late, most recently against Kazuhiro Nakamura at Dream 18 in Saitama, Japan.

Looking to stop Harris from getting this third win in a row is Californian D.J. Linderman. Known as “Da Protégé,” Linderman is himself a national veteran with two fights at Bellator and a win over ATT’s Mario Rinaldi on his record. D.J. has fought as high as heavyweight in his career and, like his opponent, is known as a tough hard-nosed fighter with a wrestling base.

Looking at matchup again (we ran a TXMMA Tale of the Tape on it already), this bout has the potential to bring fireworks with both guys being exceptional grapplers that like to smash people. It remains to be seen whether we’ll some high altitude slams in this one like we’ve seen in the past from these two but that definitely looms as a distinct possibility.

Texas Showdown Pits East vs. West

Mike "The Greek" Bronzoulis

In the third highlight fight of the evening, we have a good old fashioned Texas showdown with Houston’s Mike “The Greek” Bronzoulis coming back to Legacy FC to take on promotional first-timer and Lubbock stalwart Eric “Big Head” Davila.

Fans in attendance should be cheering loudly for the 13-4 Houstonian, who touts one of the larger fan bases as far as local fighters in the area. Bronzoulis is a 2-time Strikeforce vet that’s also won at Shark Fights in addition to Legacy where he’s a former 170 champion. He most recently dropped his last fight in a title bout loss to Jorge “Macaco” Patino but he’ll be looking to come back with a vengeance in this one.

Likewise, his opponent Eric Davila will be looking to come back with a passion as well. “Big Head” dropped his most recent bout in the Rio Grande Valley to UFC-veteran Dave Menne via submission and we’re willing to bet that’s not sitting well with him at all. Prior to that fight, Davila had won his previous four bouts over some tough opponents including another UFC-vet in Brock Larson so he’ll definitely be looking to get back on track and do it in a big way in this televised bout.

Best of the Rest on the LFC 10 Card

Jonathan "Hulk" Harris

Aside from the three bouts mentioned above, the rest of the televised card should provide a more-than-interesting supporting cast for local fans and national viewers on HDNet.

Chidi Njokuani (younger brother of UFC fighter Anthony Njokuani) comes into town from Las Vegas to face another local revelation as of late in Jonathan “Hulk” Harris in what should be a knockdown-drag out affair. Another UFC sibling Carson Beebe (brother of UFC vet Chase Beebe) will also be taking on a local pro in Tim Snyder in order to up his own worth on the MMA scene. Last but not least, two of Houston’s own up-and-coming prospects face each other when Alex Morono takes on Rashon Lewis in the opening televised bout of the evening.

Elsewhere in “dark match” action on the prelims, there’s even more notable talent to watch out for – namely Angel Huerta, Cody Williams, and Bubba Bush in additional to the rest of the fights on the card.

All in all, it should prove to be another great card for Legacy FC and has the potential to be their best one yet if all these athletes fight to form.

Below is the main card as it stands today. Have a look and share your own thoughts on this post or on our TXMMA Facebook Page.
