ARLINGTON, TX, April 24, 2012 – We recently spoke to longtime Saekson Janjira student Charles Byrd regarding this Saturday night’s Dominion Warrior Evolution event scheduled for the Plano Centre. “Kid Dynamite” will be fighting fellow North Texas native and longtime Texas fight veteran “Hurricane” Ira Boyd in the main event of the evening as he looks to build on his current two-fight win streak on the way to bigger and better things.

Here’s what he had to say prior to the bout.

Interview – Charles “Kid Dynamite” Byrd (Saekson Janjira)

Charles, start off by telling the fans a little bit about yourself and how you got started in this sport.

I’m a laid back type of guy I like to have fun and joke around. I started fighting when I was little with Isshinryu Karate and did well with the tournaments and won trophies and medals. I played around with boxing off and on while in high school and eventually started training once I was out of school. Fighting is all I used to dream about as a kid. I looked up to Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Mike Tyson a lot. I tried to study every move Bruce Lee did in all his movies, every since I was a kid I have always loved martial arts and boxing. Life outside the gym is about my family, my wife Lauren and my two boys, Cayden and Brayon. Just balancing the busy schedule of training and taking care of my family, that’s pretty much every day life for me. The most important thing to me right now in my life is being a positive role model for my boys and showing them threw my career and training that hard work does pay off.

You’re going into your seventh fight now as a pro. What has been your career-defining moment so far? Anything stand out in terms of great wins or tough losses?

I think the defining moment so far hasn’t happened yet – to me that is the UFC or another big promotion. I say as far as losses are concerned my DQ which shows as a loss (Donyell Winrow, Global Fighting, April 2009) is a fight I’ve really learned a lot from in terms of patience and being precise. I dominated that fight only to DQ myself with a mistake so I just don’t like it showing as a loss but hey it was my mistake. The other loss.. I learned a lot about preparation and taking this sport serious when it comes to training. In all I don’t try to regret much, in this sport anything can happen.

What’s it like training with your team there in the Dallas area? Can you describe your day-to-day atmosphere for us?

I love training with all my training partners, I train with some of the best standing and on the ground day in and out and it’s a test every day. I’m very fortunate to have such great training partners in the DFW that I can work with.

Tell us about your fight this weekend. Who are you fighting and what do you know?

I’m fighting Ira Boyd. I know he’s experienced and has fought some tough guys in the past, I used to lurk on TXMMA and laugh at all the feuds he’d have with certain people but that’s basically it. i know Ira is a vet and will be ready to fight once the bell rings and so will I.

Any predictions for how this fight ends?

I see this fight being fun. I will look to take Ira out standing. I’m not about talk I’m about action and I’ll be ready once the bell rings.

What does this fight mean to you? How can fans pick up tickets?

This upcoming fight to me is all about business and doing my job and getting one step closer to my goal. I know this promoter is putting on exiting fights and fans will be in for good show on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at dominionwarrior.com.

Any other last words before Saturday?

I just want to thank my Janjira family and especially Saekson Janjira, Matt Rossini (Imperial Fight Management), coach Glenn Killian at Warrior Training ground, Yousef and Molhsen at Star BJJ and wrestling and all my training partners that have helped me prepare for this fight.
